Microneedling with exosomes

Also called: Purasomes, exosome facial, collagen induction therapy.

Microneedling with exosomes at Dr Munroe Clinic combines two steps. Microneedling creates tiny, controlled channels in the skin to encourage repair, and exosomes (Purasomes) are then applied to the skin to support that repair and calm the redness that follows. Treatment may suit uneven texture, dullness, enlarged pores, fine lines and scarring, on the face, neck and décolletage, and is usually given as a course of three treatments, three to four weeks apart.

what it treats.

Microneedling on its own is a well-established treatment for skin texture and health. A device with very fine needles creates thousands of tiny channels in the upper layers of the skin, and the repair that follows includes the production of new collagen. On its own it typically leaves four to five days of redness.

Dr Munroe always combines microneedling with exosomes, not only for their own benefit but for the significant reduction in redness afterwards. Exosomes are tiny vesicles released by cells that carry signalling proteins, which activate the skin's own cells. Applied while the channels are open, they aim to support the repair and calm inflammation.

Treatment may suit uneven texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scarring and sun damage, and is well suited to the neck and décolletage as well as the face. It can help skin to heal, including scars and stretch marks, and some people use it to optimise their skin before surgery or where scars may form.

what it doesn't treat.

Because it works in the upper layers of the skin, microneedling will not restore volume or support beneath the skin, which filler and collagen biostimulators address, or relax expression lines.

the assessment.

Needle depth is set for each area and skin type: shallower on the thinner skin of the neck and around the eyes, deeper for scarring on the cheeks. Active acne, cold sores and some skin conditions mean treatment is best delayed, and keloid scarring is avoided, although hypertrophic scars can be treated. The assessment also considers whether texture is the main concern; dullness from dehydration may respond better to Profhilo, and crepiness from thinning skin to polynucleotides.

what happens on the day.

Following consultation, the risks and side effects are explained, consent alongside your medical history is taken and photographs are taken for the clinical record. Numbing cream is applied for 20 to 30 minutes, the skin is treated with microneedling, and the exosomes are then applied to the skin. People are often surprised by how comfortable the treatment is. The numbing time and the treatment itself make this a good moment to put on a podcast we can both enjoy.

recovery.

The exosomes should be left on the skin for at least 24 hours to have their maximal effect: this is where the magic happens. Avoid washing the area, make-up and active skincare such as retinoids and acids for 24 hours, and use a high-factor sunscreen every day afterwards.

Redness similar to mild sunburn is usual and often settles within a day or two with exosomes; your first treatment tends to have the most redness, and it is likely to be less noticeable with each treatment. The skin can feel tight and dry for a few days, and light flaking in the first week is common. There is minimal downtime and most people return straight to their day.

results.

The skin often looks brighter within one to two weeks as the surface renews. Changes in texture and scarring build gradually over the course, and for some weeks afterwards, as new collagen forms. Response varies with skin type and with how closely the aftercare is followed.

who it isn't for.

Treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is active acne or infection in the area, or for people with keloid scarring. Hypertrophic scars can be treated. Recent treatment with isotretinoin is discussed individually.

common questions.

Are the exosomes injected?

No. They are applied to the skin after microneedling, and this treatment never involves injecting exosomes.

Why Purasomes rather than other exosomes?

Purasomes are derived from certified organic bovine colostrum rather than human or plant cells, with a traceable source and a published evidence base, and they carry growth factors and signalling proteins alongside the exosomes themselves. They are available only to healthcare professionals.

Can this be combined with Profhilo or polynucleotides?

Yes, in sequence. The order depends on the skin and is set at consultation.
