Jawline definition
A jawline can soften for different reasons: changes in bone and volume along the jaw, a chin that sits back, early jowling, or fullness beneath the chin. Each is treated differently, and sometimes the concern is the opposite, a jaw that looks square because the chewing muscle is enlarged.

what it is.
Jawline definition is the clean line from below the ear to the chin, and the angle it makes with the neck. It is lost when that line becomes less distinct, whether at the angle of the jaw, along its length, at the chin or beneath it.
what causes it.
With age, the bone at the angle of the jaw and at the chin gradually changes shape, and the fat of the lower face descends towards the jaw, which can begin to form jowls. Some people have a chin that naturally sits back, and weight gain can add fullness beneath the chin. An enlarged masseter, the chewing muscle, can make the lower face look square rather than soft.
who gets it.
Softening of the jawline usually begins in the forties. A chin that sits back is lifelong, and an enlarged masseter is common in people who clench or grind their teeth.

The first step is identifying the cause. For many people, a combination of support at the chin and along the jaw, sometimes alongside the cheeks, is planned in proportion with the rest of the face so that the result looks balanced rather than sculpted.

Can filler create a sharper jawline?
Filler can add definition along the jaw and projection at the chin, which is what makes a jawline look more defined. How much is appropriate is judged in proportion with the rest of the face.
What is jaw slimming?
Anti-wrinkle injections into the masseter, the chewing muscle, for a lower face that looks square or heavy because the muscle is enlarged. The change develops gradually over six to eight weeks.
What about fullness under the chin?
Fat beneath the chin is treated with fat-reduction injections or procedures, which are not offered at Dr Munroe Clinic. This will be discussed at consultation if it is the main concern.
